Spillman Technologies Aides Osceola County Sheriff in $1.5 Million Drug Bust
Logan, UT-Osceola County Sheriff's Department recently helped the U.S. Marshal's seize nearly $1.5 million dollars worth of methamphetamine with the help of their Spillman Technologies' public safety software system.
Communications Officer Ken Auer received a call from the U.S. Marshal's Office requesting information regarding the location of a fugitive under federal indictment for trafficking methamphetamine. Officer Auer was given approximately 20 telephone numbers and was asked to provide any information on those numbers that he could find. Using the Spillman system's powerful searching capabilities, Officer Auer was able to perform a quick search on each telephone number. The search produced a connection between one of the telephone numbers and the suspect the U.S. Marshals were looking for.
A direct link to every record in the Spillman system that the suspect had been associated with was easily accessible using a unique Spillman feature called an involvement. One of these links provided an address where the suspect had last resided. Units were sent to the address listed and $16,000 in cash, along with one pound of methamphetamine was found. A search warrant was obtained and another eight pounds of methamphetamine, with a street value of $500,000, was found.
The suspect was taken into custody and during a taped conversation in jail, told an associate to get the secret stash.” Officers staked out the residence until a search warrant was obtained and another search of the residence produced thirteen more pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside the wall behind a medicine cabinet. The street value was $900,000.
The skills of Officer Auer and his associates at the Osceola County Sheriff's Department, with some help from their Spillman software system, helped in the seizure of nearly $1.5 million. Dispatch Supervisor Frankie Norris said, Cases like this illustrate Spillman's value as an investigative tool. Investigators consult the Spillman dispatch and records management system countless times on a daily basis and are rewarded with information that leads to an arrest or helps solve a case.”
