Spillman Appoints New President
LOGAN, Utah – March 23, 2005 – Spillman Technologies, Inc., a nationwide leader in providing public safety software, has named Lester Hellewell as president. Due to significant growth in the company in recent years, the decision to appoint a new president was a crucial step in maintaining Spillman's market presence and achieving the company's long-term growth plan. Previously, owner and founder Richard Spillman performed the duties of president and CEO.
Hellewell was hired as the General Manager for Spillman in September 2004, with the owners originally anticipating that he would be named as president within one year of working at Spillman. After just six months, he has exceeded their expectations, and is already performing the duties of president.
We are very excited about what the future holds for the growth of Spillman Technologies. Bringing on an executive with Lester's extensive experience allows us to take the company to the next level,” said Richard Spillman, CEO of Spillman Technologies, Inc.
Prior to his work at Spillman, Hellewell spent 15 years at Huntsman Corporation, where he was most recently Director of the Expandable Resins Business. He brings over 20 years of progressive sales, marketing and executive management experience to Spillman.
Spillman has a lot of potential for expansion and significant growth beyond what it has achieved in recent years,” said Hellewell. Our feature-rich software coupled with a unique sales process will help this company become the recognized leader in the public safety software market, while maintaining strong relationships with our customers through world-class customer service and support.”
Hellewell moved from Salt Lake City to Logan with his wife, Kathleen, and their three children, Aersta, 18, Kylee, 15, and Ben, 11.
Founded in 1978 by Richard Spillman, Spillman Technologies, Inc. was the result of a senior project in a Utah State University computer science course. At that time, Mr. Spillman began working closely with city and county officials in the law enforcement department to create a program that would assist them with their duties. By 1983 Spillman Technologies had developed its first software program for the public safety industry. Today more than 27,000 public safety officials at hundreds of agencies nationwide benefit from Spillman's integrated software solutions.
For nearly 30 years Spillman has remained privately owned, and has never bought, sold, or merged with another company. Between 2001 and 2004, company revenues grew by 95 percent, almost doubling from $10 million to $19.5 million, and revenues are expected to exceed this growth rate in coming years.
Of Spillman's 150 current employees, nearly 80 percent work in client-focused areas (product development, research, account management, customer service and customer support departments). As a result, the company consistently maintains an extremely high customer approval rating, as well as an excellent customer retention rate.
We are looking forward to making Spillman the dominant player at all levels of the public safety industry,” said Hellwell, from small agencies all the way up to the largest.”
Company owners Richard Spillman, Taft Barrington and Clint Goldsberry will remain actively involved with Spillman Technologies, Inc. as the Board of Directors. Spillman will serve as the Chairman of the Board and CEO; Barrington will serve as Secretary, Treasurer and Director; and Goldsberry will serve as Director.
Spillman Technologies provides a full range of software solutions for public safety agencies, including Computer-Aided Dispatch, Records Management, Mobile Communications, Corrections Management, Fire/EMS Management, and Resource Management solutions.
