Spillman Technologies Announces Relocation
LOGAN, Utah – May 12, 2005 – After more than two decades of providing public safety software to state and local governments across the country, Spillman Technologies is expanding its operation and relocating to the Salt Lake City area.
Spillman Technologies currently operates in Logan, but by the end of 2005 the company plans to move its headquarters, and nearly 150 employees, to a facility at Lake Park Corporate Centre in Salt Lake.
It's a necessary move that owners say will assist in achieving Spillman's long-term growth plan. An expanding client base, and anticipated growth in numbers of new employees, required the company to look outside of Cache Valley for accommodations.
The biggest reason we are relocating is to have access to a larger pool of talented employees, like the caliber of our current employees,” said Lester Hellewell, company president. Secondly, we need to be in a location that's accessible to our customers, suppliers and prospects.”
Founded in 1978 by Richard Spillman, Spillman Technologies, Inc. was the result of a senior project in a Utah State University computer science course. Because of the company's local history, the decision to relocate was significant.
It saddens us to leave Cache Valley because we love it here, and we appreciate the great relationship we have with the City of Logan and specifically Chief Richard Hendricks and Sheriff Lynn Nelson,” said Richard Spillman, CEO. We just couldn't find suitable office space here and developing our own facility isn't feasible.”
To facilitate the transition, Spillman Technologies plans to support its employees throughout the relocation process by offering services through real estate experts and moving companies.
In addition to the flexible offerings of the new complex, company officials also feel the move will provide a fitting atmosphere nestled among other major corporations in the Salt Lake area.
Spillman Technologies provides a full range of software solutions for public safety agencies, including Computer-Aided Dispatch, Records Management, Mobile Communications, Corrections Management, Fire/EMS Management, and Resource Management. The software is installed at more than 525 agencies nationwide.
Founded in 1978 by Richard Spillman, Spillman Technologies, Inc. was the result of a senior project in a Utah State University computer science course. At that time, Spillman began working closely with city and county officials in the law enforcement department to create a program that would assist them with their duties. By 1983 Spillman Technologies had developed its first software program for the public safety industry. Today more than 27,000 public safety officials at hundreds of agencies nationwide benefit from Spillman's integrated software solutions.
For nearly 30 years Spillman has remained privately owned, and has never bought, sold, or merged with another company. Between 2001 and 2004, company revenues grew by 95 percent, almost doubling from $10 million to $19.5 million, and revenues are expected to exceed this growth rate in coming years.
Of Spillman's 150 current employees, nearly 80 percent work in client-focused areas (product development, research, account management, customer service and customer support departments). As a result, the company consistently maintains an extremely high customer approval rating, as well as an excellent customer retention rate.
