Douglas County implements high-tech data system

SALT LAKE CITY – May 16, 2007 – The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, located near Carson City, Nev., is using a new high-tech public safety software system from Spillman Technologies, a leading public safety software provider headquartered in Salt Lake City.

The new software provides the county with increased response, tracking, and reporting abilities as well as advanced computer-aided dispatch and mobile communications solutions to better manage its two correctional facilities.

The jail system and mobile data modules were big selling points to our agency,” said Paul Howell, the undersheriff for Douglas County. The improvement Spillman offers over our existing system is exciting.”

Howell said that county officials were impressed by many characteristics of the Spillman system, but mainly the depth of its searching capabilities, the stability of the UNIX operating system, and the ease-of-operation to the end user.

The Quickest Route dispatching was also a big factor in obtaining buy-in from our fire departments,” said Howell, referring to a feature that accurately calculates the total drive time to reach a call by factoring for access barriers.

According to Howell, the Spillman system not only enables the county to upgrade its correctional operations, but also allows the sheriff's office to manage multi-jurisdictional dispatching for other local agencies.

Our former software system was 20 years old,” said Howell. It is no longer supported by the parent company and isn't compatible with newer technology. We chose Spillman based on the company's history, stability, and track record with existing customers along with the quality of the company's product.”

Howell predicts the new system will have a long-term impact on the county's ability to enforce the law and keep community members safe.

The technology provided by Spillman products is going to take us light years ahead of where we were, said Howell. I believe this will enable us to provide a more efficient and effective service to our citizens.”

By implementing advanced software solutions for dispatch, mobile, and jail data management, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is making tremendous progress over its former system,” said Joe Lunt, Spillman's vice president of sales and marketing. We look forward to providing the long-term reliability and stability they need in a software vendor.”

Douglas County Sheriff's Office implemented the new system on May 9.

Spillman Technologies provides a full range of software solutions for public safety agencies, including Computer-Aided Dispatch, Records Management, Mobile Communications, Corrections Management, Fire/EMS Management, Resource Management, and Data Sharing. The software is installed at nearly 700 agencies nationwide.
