The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG)  is designed to help fire departments obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources. Although typically announced in the early spring, delays in federal funding have resulted in this grant opening later than usual. Congress has appropriated $810 million to the AFG program, and the program is now expected to begin accepting applications in early July.

AFG applications and additional information can be found here. Please note that application requirements have changed from previous years. Fire departments that partner with another non-fire public safety agency are also eligible to apply for the SAFER grant.  If you have questions or need assistance with your Spillman grant application, please contact Spillman Grant Specialist Cathy Thompson at grants@spillman.com.
