Users’ Conference 2015 – Sneak Peek
Users’ Conference is only four weeks away, and anticipation is building here at Spillman as we make final preparations for a week of informative classes, networking opportunities, entertainment, and catching up with friends from across the nation. Check out this sneak preview of just a few of the exciting events in the works for this year’s conference, which will take place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In keeping with the Users’ Conference tradition of excellent keynote speakers, attendees this year will have the opportunity to hear from Captain Richard Phillips. The retired merchant mariner, who was captured and held hostage by Somalian pirates in 2009, will address the conference during the Opening General Session on the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 29. Phillips will speak about his experience during the maritime hijacking and his eventual rescue by a team of U.S. Navy SEALs, which he recounted in his autobiography, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea. His story was later dramatized in the Academy Award-nominated film, Captain Phillips, which debuted in 2013.
Once Captain Phillips has helped kick-off the conference, attendees can look forward to four days of informative classes and presentations following the theme of “Unlocking the Power of Your Data.” The 2015 Users’ Conference will feature a new Analytics track of classes, with presenters such as Command Solutions’ Rich Hendricks, representatives from BAIR Analytics, and members of Spillman’s Demo and Research & Design teams. Class offerings within this track will include “Spillman Analytics: Beyond the Buttons,” “Be an Analyst, not a Report Maker,” and other topics related to Intelligence-Led Policing.
Other new class offerings include:
- Before the Shots are Fired – Surviving an Active Shooter Event (Executive Track)
- Troubleshooting Like a Pro (Sys Admin UNIX, Linux, and Windows Tracks)
- Data Replication (Sys Admin UNIX, Linux and Windows Tracks)
- Operationalizing Predictive Policing (Analytics Track)
- What you Need to Know about Crystal (Records Track)
- Dispatching Basics (Dispatch Track)
- Leveraging Esri for Visualization (GIS Track)
- Show Me the Money! Optimize Jail Billing (Corrections Track)
Continuing with the theme, conference attendees will be able to participate in an exciting game of “Free the Key.” Every guest will receive a game card with a list of 10 tasks to complete during the conference, such as viewing a demo in Club Spillman or adding an idea to the Product Idea site. Those who complete these tasks will be entered to win a key that may open a large case filled to the top with 500 dollar bills. Completing five tasks earns one ticket in the drawing for keys while completing all 10 tasks earns two tickets, and participation in the game will give attendees an opportunity to engage even more fully with one another and with Spillman throughout the week.
In addition to the abundance of classes, activities, and networking opportunities, one of the annual highlights of Users’ Conference has consistently been the evening entertainment. Attendees this year should come prepared to rock, as the World Classic Rockers will be taking over the Salt Palace on the evening of Wednesday, Sept 30. This all-star group boasts musicians from the some of the greatest rock bands of all time, including Steppenwolf, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Santana, and Boston, who will come together to perform fan favorite hits like “Born to be Wild,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” and “Don’t Stop Believing.” It will be a night to remember, and admission to both dinner and the show is included in registration.
As you can see, the 2015 Users’ Conference is one you won’t want to miss. Register today through MySpillman, if you have not already. We can’t wait to see you there!
