The Women of Spillman Team Up with ARUP for Company-Wide Blood Drive
The Women of Spillman, an internal Spillman Technologies group dedicated to professional development, recently hosted a successful service initiative. The organization partnered with ARUP Blood Services to host a blood drive at Spillman’s Salt Lake City location in an effort to serve the community.
Members of the Women of Spillman gathered at the beginning of the year to discuss various community service projects. After conducting a survey and reviewing many suggestions for project ideas, the group decided to host a blood drive at Spillman Technologies’ headquarters during work hours. This option gave the entire company an opportunity to participate in the service activity.
The Women of Spillman approached ARUP Blood Services, a Utah-based, non-profit component of the University of Utah Department of Pathology, about partnering for the blood drive. The collection center serves as the sole blood provider for several major Utah hospitals, including the only two children’s hospitals in Utah, Primary Children’s Hospital and Shriner’s Hospital for Children. After reviewing the donation process with an ARUP representative and completing an on-site inspection, a date and time was set for the company-wide blood drive.
The Women of Spillman generated enthusiasm for the project throughout the company, and for an extra boost of encouragement, held a raffle for those who participated in the blood drive. Each department of the company, as well as the Women of Spillman, pitched in to create four gift baskets to raffle off.
On the day of the blood drive, Spillman employees filtered in to donate blood throughout the day. The ARUP team provided water and snacks and gave each donor a voucher for a free pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.
The Women of Spillman set out to have at least 25 donors participate in the blood drive, and employees from every department of Spillman helped the group to exceed that goal. Thirty-six participants had donated by the end of the event, and four lucky donors went home with goodie-filled gift baskets.
The Women of Spillman wishes to thank ARUP Blood Services for facilitating the blood drive, as well as all those who participated. The organization is honored to have coordinated such a successful event and is proud that so many were able to get involved in supporting local hospitals and patients. The project was a great success.
